Will an immobiliser affect my warranty, lease or PCP?

No — and it is worth understanding the reason rather than taking the answer, because the same fact explains why these systems are hard for a thief to find, and it is what separates a proper installation from the sort that genuinely does cause an argument at the end of an agreement.

A Ghost II or a CAN Phantom does not cut into your wiring. It connects to the CAN bus, the data network the car already runs on and the same one the dashboard, the airbags and the engine management use to talk to each other. No loom is shortened, no connector is butchered, nothing is spliced and nothing is drilled. The system speaks on a network that was designed from the outset to have things connected to it.

That is what makes the warranty question straightforward. A manufacturer can decline a claim where a modification caused the fault, and a device wired in by cutting into a loom hands them somewhere obvious to point. A CAN-bus system does not, because there is nothing altered to point at. It is also the reason insurers and the vehicle security bodies recognise these systems in the first place.

The lease and PCP question is really a question about removal, and this is where it matters most. If you do not own the car outright you have agreed to hand it back close to how you received it, and a return inspection is not a forgiving process. Because nothing was cut to put the system in, nothing has to be repaired to take it out — it unplugs, and the car goes back exactly as it was with no trace and no deduction. Tell us when you book that the vehicle is on finance and we will route and secure the install with that in mind rather than as an afterthought.

Servicing is the next thing people ask, usually one question too late. The car still goes wherever you like for its service, and the immobiliser does not interfere with a diagnostic session or a software update. What you do need is a plan for handing the keys over, because a technician who cannot start the car will ring you from the service desk and you will be at work. Both systems handle this: Ghost II has a service mode that lets a garage move the vehicle without your sequence, and the CAN Phantom has a timed valet mode you set yourself from your phone. We show you how before we leave, because the first dealer visit is exactly when you will need it and exactly when you will not want to be reading a manual.

Two smaller ones. Battery drain is a common worry and not a real one — standing current is far below what the car's own alarm and central locking draw. If a vehicle is going to sit for months, put it on a trickle charger, which is sound advice for any modern car whatever is fitted to it. And a diagnostic tool plugged into the footwell will not reveal the system, which is rather the point: somebody who has already beaten the keyless entry finds a car that cranks and will not fire, with nothing on the scanner to explain it.

There is one honest caveat. If the car is a company vehicle you do not control, or a lease where the agreement explicitly prohibits any aftermarket electrical work, read the wording or ask the leasing company first. Most are entirely relaxed about a non-invasive security system and some actively prefer one. It costs an email to find out and it is a better conversation to have before the fitter arrives.

If your car is under warranty, on a lease, or on a PCP with a return date you are already thinking about, that is a reason to fit an immobiliser rather than a reason to wait. Send us the registration and the situation and we will confirm how it gets handled before anything is booked.

Will an aftermarket immobiliser void my manufacturer warranty?
No. The system connects to the CAN bus, the data network the car already runs on, and nothing is cut, drilled or spliced. A manufacturer can decline a claim where a modification caused a fault; a non-invasive CAN-bus system gives them nothing to point at.
Can it be taken out at the end of a PCP or lease?
Yes, completely and without trace. Because nothing was cut to fit it, nothing has to be repaired to remove it — tell us the car is on finance when you book and we route the install with the return inspection in mind.
Will it cause a problem at a main dealer service?
No. It does not interfere with a diagnostic session or a software update. You just need a way to hand the keys over — Ghost II has a service mode and the CAN Phantom a timed valet mode you set from your phone.
Does it drain the battery?
No. The standing current is far below what the car's own alarm and central locking draw. If the vehicle is going to sit for months, use a trickle charger — sound advice for any modern car.
